LED downlight installation quote template (Australia)
Swapping old halogens for LED downlights is a quick job that customers often get several quotes for. A per-light price with clear notes on switching, cut-outs and certification helps your quote stand out.
Line items to include
- Labour (hours × your rate), or a price per light
- LED downlights with wattage, colour and rating (for example 10W tri-colour IC-4)
- Plugs, leads and connectors
- Removal and disposal of old fittings and transformers
- New switching or dimmers, as their own lines if they're in scope
Cut-outs and ceilings
If the new fittings need a different cut-out size, say who patches the ceiling. Patching is a common exclusion. Note the assumption that existing cut-outs suit the new lights and that there's roof space access.
Insulation and compliance
Fittings with an IC-4 rating can be covered by insulation, which matters to customers with batts in the ceiling. Electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician, so put your licence number on the quote and note the certificate of electrical safety or compliance required in your state or territory.
Showing materials markup and GST
Enter fittings at cost and let your markup apply, so the customer sees one price per line. If you're registered for GST, show the ex-GST subtotal, GST at 10% and the total.

Common questions
Should I quote LED downlights per light?
A per-light price is easy to compare and to change if the customer adds lights. Switching, dimmers and patching are clearer as their own lines.
What does IC-4 mean on a downlight?
It's a rating for fittings that can be covered by building insulation. List the rating on the quote so the customer knows what they're getting.
Is ceiling patching included when replacing downlights?
Only if you say so. If new cut-outs are larger or smaller, list patching as an exclusion or a separate line.
