Painting/Painting quote template
Exterior house painting quote template (Australia)
Exterior repaints are mostly preparation, and that's what customers can't see. A quote that prices the walls by the square metre and lists the prep, trims and access separately explains your price before anyone asks.
Line items to include
- Walls by the m² (prep plus number of coats, with paint type and sheen)
- Window frames, fascias, barge boards and doors, as a lot or by the item
- Pressure washing, scraping, sanding and spot priming
- Filling and caulking gaps
- Scaffold or extra access equipment, if the job needs more than ladders and planks
Lead paint and older houses
Houses built before about 1970 may have lead paint. If testing shows lead, lead-safe preparation is quoted separately. Say so on the quote rather than finding out halfway through.
Access, weather and rotten timber
State your access assumption (single-storey ladder work, or scaffold included) and that dates may move for rain. Replacing rotten weatherboards or fascias is usually an exclusion, quoted by the hour if you find it.
Showing GST
When your rates already include paint, the customer sees one price per line. If you're registered for GST, show the ex-GST subtotal, GST at 10% and the total.

Common questions
Should I quote exterior painting per square metre?
A wall rate per m² is easy to compare and to adjust if the area changes. Trims, fascias and doors are usually clearer as their own lines.
Does an exterior quote need to mention lead paint?
On older houses it's wise to. State that lead-safe work, if testing shows lead, will be quoted separately.
Should gutters and fences be in an exterior painting quote?
Only if you're painting them. Otherwise list them as exclusions so the customer knows.
