Painting/Painting quote template
Interior painting quote template, priced per room (Australia)
Pricing interior work by the room is quick for you and easy for the customer to follow. The trick is saying exactly what a room includes, so nobody argues later about doors, wardrobes or a third colour.
Line items to include
- Each room type as its own line with a quantity (for example 3 bedrooms, 1 hallway)
- What a room covers: walls, ceiling, door and trims, number of coats, paint included or not
- Patching of minor cracks and nail holes
- Feature walls or extra colours, if they're in scope
Name the paint system
Say what goes on each surface, for example sealer or undercoat where needed, then 2 top coats of low-sheen acrylic on walls, flat on ceilings and semi-gloss on trims. Say who chooses the colours and how many are included.
Exclusions and assumptions
Common exclusions are moving heavy furniture, major plaster or water damage repairs, and wardrobe interiors. Note assumptions such as standard ceiling heights and sound existing paint. If the home was built before about 1970, assume lead paint may be present and say how it will be handled. Painting licence or registration rules vary by state, so put your number on the quote where your state requires one.
Showing GST
If you're registered for GST, show the ex-GST subtotal, GST at 10% and the GST-inclusive total, so the per-room prices add up to what the customer pays.
Worked example

Common questions
Should I quote interior painting per room or per m²?
Per room is quicker for standard rooms and easier for customers to follow. Per m² suits large or unusual areas. Whichever you use, say what it includes.
Should paint be included in a per-room price?
Many painters include it and say so in the line description. If the customer is supplying paint, note that on the quote.
What about lead paint in older homes?
For homes built before about 1970, it's sensible to note that lead paint may be present and how it will be handled, or exclude it.
