Carpentry/Carpentry quote template
Pergola quote template for Australian carpenters
A pergola quote needs to be clear about size, materials and roofing, because customers often compare a basic frame against a fully roofed and guttered job. Itemising it makes that difference obvious.
Line items to include
- Labour (hours × your rate)
- Posts, beams and rafters, with timber type and sizes
- Concrete footings and post stirrups
- Roof sheeting, flashings and fixings (Colorbond or polycarbonate)
- Gutter and downpipe
- Painting or staining, as its own line if it's in scope
Permits and engineering
Whether a pergola needs a building permit or engineering depends on its size, height, roofing, closeness to boundaries and your state or council rules. Don't promise that one isn't needed. Note your assumption and exclude permit and engineering fees unless you're arranging them.
Exclusions that protect you
Common exclusions are stormwater connection, electrical work such as lights or fans, painting, and footings in rock or poor ground. Writing down the assumed ground conditions saves arguments later.
Showing materials markup and GST
Enter timber, sheeting and hardware at cost and let your markup apply, so the customer sees one price per line. If you're registered for GST, show the ex-GST subtotal, GST at 10% and the total.

Common questions
Should a pergola quote include the roof?
Say clearly whether the pergola is roofed and with what. A roofed and guttered pergola is a very different price from an open frame.
Do pergolas need a building permit?
It depends on size, height, location and local rules. State your assumption on the quote and exclude permit fees unless you're handling the permit.
Should lights or fans be in a pergola quote?
Electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician, so list it as an exclusion or as a separate line if you're arranging one.
